AI insurance sales agents: fix the pre-quote handoff

Someone fills in your insurance enquiry form, then waits while the producer chases the details needed to start a quote. An AI sales assistant can help with that back-and-forth: check what's missing, ask a focused question and leave the producer a brief they can work from.

Ask the question the form could not finish

Imagine a business asking about cover for a growing fleet. Its form gives a contact, a renewal month and a rough vehicle count. The attached schedule has a different count. A useful assistant can flag that difference and prepare one specific follow-up question. A generic message asking the prospect to 'tell us more' just restarts the conversation.

Base those questions on an approved intake checklist for the product and market. Use the model to interpret the reply and draft clear language; keep the required fields and routing rules under the team's control. Avoid asking for sensitive documents in an ordinary chat if the business has a dedicated secure upload route.

Work backwards from the brief the producer will open. It needs the customer's request, supplied details, open questions and any commitments the assistant has made, with a source for each important fact. Label a summary as a summary. The producer should be able to tell when they're reading the customer's words and when they're reading the model's interpretation.

Include the latest version and the time it was prepared. If a prospect changes the requested start date after the brief is ready, mark the earlier brief as outdated. Otherwise the assistant can be perfectly responsive while the sales team works from the wrong information.

A draft is not a carrier response

If the quoting system hasn't returned a premium, the assistant has no premium to quote. It mustn't fill the gap with a plausible number. The responsible insurance team also needs to set the rules for advice, eligibility and binding authority for its products and markets; those decisions can't be delegated to the conversation.

When approved quoting systems are connected, retain their result, timestamp and conditions. If a carrier returns a referral or an unavailable status, say that. The sales assistant's job is to make the next step understandable, including when a person needs to handle it.

Meet the producer inside the existing workflow

A separate assistant dashboard creates another place to check. Where practical, put the prepared brief into the CRM record the producer already uses, with a link back to its evidence. Make the owner explicit so several people do not send overlapping follow-ups.

Rubix Labs' LuckyTruck work connected quote workflows with Salesforce and Zoho records; our EasyInsurance work covered discovery, comparison and purchase journeys. Those are the published projects behind this discussion. The AI sales assistant described here is a design recommendation, rather than a feature we're attributing to either client.

Measure readiness, not just reply speed

For an initial evaluation, take a set of approved or synthetic enquiries and have a producer assess the handoffs. Could they start the next step? Which facts were wrong? Which questions were unnecessary? Did the assistant make a commitment it could not support? Keep the examples that expose mistakes.

Track producer corrections and the effort required to reach a usable submission. Faster replies are worthwhile when they move the work forward. A quick answer followed by three rounds of correction simply moves the delay elsewhere.

For the first release, choose an enquiry type the producer handles often. Agree the intake checklist and where the brief should appear. Review a few complete handoffs together before adding another product or channel.
